I must admit I didn't become a fashionably inclined girl until much later in life. Now i've always been artsy and weird (That much I had down). But it wasn't until my first retail job in college, that a love for a specific style began to emerge.
Since then my personal style has morphed several times. I won't touch on some of those touchy "Phases",but lets just say evolution is a beautiful thing!
Most textile obsessed women love this time of year. I mean really, September Vogue, Fashion Week and a season that actually allows layering !
As much as I wait on the fall season, this summer baby can't commit to dying gracefully. I've never been one to switch out my closet the moment Labor Day hits or at the first sign of a cool morning. Especially now that I've moved to the south, you never know what weather you're going to get.
So every year I come up with cool ways to blend my summer favorites I can't let go of with newly acquired fall pieces . For me I'ts the best of both worlds, like Pumpkin spice ice cream.

Gauzy floral tops don't have to die a slow, "Back of the closet death". Pair them with a thin striped sweater and skinnies and boom your current. Stay away from red and white sweater combinations, to keep it from looking too much like a spring resort ensemble.
I'm an all around denim girl, especially shorty shorts! This is by far is the hardest item to let go of and I stubbornly wear them well into the winter. Pair your denim shorts or skirt with a posh sweater/jacket and a chunky necklace and your ready for whatever the temperature throws at you in style.
So many people maintain colored denim is only for the spring and summer, and wouldn't be caught dead in them during cooler months. So this style suggestion is your comfort call, but I'm a rule breaker by trade so I'm here for it. Toss a chunky sweater over your bright bottoms and let it go!
Now, onto something a bit more challenging. "The Summer Maxi", This hack is usually reserved only for the brave. Generally we feel its cute in theory but not on us. I promise you, it won't look crazy if you take your time and play with it. Start by treating your maxi like a skirt and not a dress. Pair it with fall pieces that reflect your personal style best, that way you'll come off authentic. Don't try too hard to force it and stick with figure flattering tops so you don't look bloated. This is doable and it will add instant style and variation to your normal seasonal look.
Ok now that your feet are wet its time to break another tricky rule, White pants after Labor Day! Now I am not the first nor will I be the last to remind you this rule died out with "Skorts" and belts matching your shoes. However I am surprised at how often women are still taken aback by the idea. This season white on white is a huge trend so no time is better than the present. If you can't commit to the head to toe version shown at Fashion Week try breaking it up a bit. Leopard pumps, a denim shirt and a chunky sweater will solidify this as an intentional fall look.
Lastly if you live in a warmer climate like Georgia where fall takes its good country time before it settles in. A sweater and boyfriend style shirt are perfect pieces to throw over your choice summer flirty skirties! Your look is cool, casual and prepared for whatever the weather throws at you .
Now kittens you're swimming laps in the fashion pool and all your "rules and fears" have been debunked, run home and reorganize that closet and allow a little breathing space for vogue du jour !
